Revisiting A Rant

posted by Krayon Scribbel on June 13, 2001

OK, so I mentioned it yesterday. Sue me. Shoot me even; today I'm so fucking tired I wouldn't even notice. I'm referring to the Verizon commercials in which some Fiona Apple-esque voice warbles the "Just Wanna Be Free" song, followed by a multitude of "too hip for this world" morons flashing peace signs, er, I mean, Verizon signs at the camera whilst delighting in the freedom that is unbridled hipsterism. I demand in the name of all that's just and fair that piercing hot needles be shoved in the eyes of whatever moron scripted that commercial whenever it's aired. The '60's are over. Been over for a while now. Cell phones aren't exciting. Don't kid yourself. They're not.

Two things bother me about this:

A) Let the '60's rest. better yet, let them die.

B) It's truly sad that a lack of youthful healthy anarchy has allowed our culture to mush. The commercial is but one example, one can also look at music, clothing, etc. It's all about borrowed old stylings with no expression. Where are today's Jello Biafras and Lee Vings? I could go on, but I think you get my general meaning by now. Allright, enough, I'm hobbling off my ramshackle old man punk rock box now.... A little help? Somebody hand me my cane.....
