Queer, indeed...

An "ex-homosexual" tells an Austin church that gays can choose to be straight.

While undoubtedly true. last year the same cured homosexual was photographed hanging out in a gay bar in DC. He said he didn't know it was a gay bar, and was only there to use the rest room.

Pomes 'Bout Dave

Since Dave lives where it's cold and they ain't got cable TV or readin' books or nothin' but ice and polar bears and all that kinda stuff, let's all entertain him with some potry what's wrote just for him! Here goes:

ODE TO McOCEANS

"Brr I'm cold!" is what he say

Say it each and every day

Live in igloo and ice fish

"Want be warm!" his only wish

Always dark and always frigid

Body stiff and cold and rigid

Only go out when he dare

Get chased off by polar bear

Or big ol' moose that snort and prance

Icicles fall in his pants

Eatin' seal and whale blubber

Food be tastin' jes lak rubber

But ol' McOceans, he don't care

"Guess I gotta live somewhere!"

He say and go fall through the ice

Gotta say it's mighty nice

To wake up in the morning and not have to kill grizzlys and eat whales and ice

fish and who the hell would wanna live in a damn igloo anyway?!! Dave's a dummy.

point of clarification

just for my own piece of mind, let me set the record straight. not that you'll care. but i do.

i was kidding about racing a xooter in that first post. then was all gungho in the next... back there. but as a point of clarification... the thing i'm loving most about riding lately is... i'm not really all caught up in how fast i go. while i do want to be able to go fast and far, and ride tough hills, more than that i want it to stay fun. not turn into a big biking gruelfest. the whole reason i love my new cruiser and its lack of speeds is that i can - and do - relax when i ride. i don't think about shifting and how i could have set up this hill better or o-no-my-cadence-has-fallen-off or whatever. i just ride around. so all my attempts to become a better rider are focused on maximizing my fun. in the effort to have maximum fun... i want to be able to go anywhere i want, including singletrack. i want to be able to climb any hill i want. more than speed i want endurance, i suppose. but more than endurance i want fun. more fun. not 'winning.'

likewise, in the same spirit of maxfun... i want to learn to wheel and powerslide. i want to bunnyhop and jump. but i want this because my bike is so much fun to be on, not because i'm trying to prove anything. and if i fail to learn to do these things as well as i'd like, my bike will still be a pure simple solid blast to ride around.

by the way... i pulled my first real wheelie since i was a kid the other day. by accident. i was trying to beat some traffic off a stoplight, and was kind of doing a trackstand at the light... and standing on my pedals. i powered down with my left foot and i guess i was pulling up on the bars cuz up it came. totally unlike my spastic efforts to muscle it up in the past, which always get miniscule air and then crunch hard immediately. it was natural and easy the way it floated up. still didn't last long (thank god, i was, after all, in traffic), but was nice and smooth. suddenly i know how they're supposed to FEEL. now i want to wheelie well more than ever, to feel it floating up like that.

it was fun.

anyway, i hope the xooter turns out to be fun for mike. and i hope the crossroads is fun. it has that nice curve in the top tube... and its a bike. so i'm for it. especially if its even a fraction as fun as mine is for me. i hope everybody gets (or has) a bike - or something - that is as much fun for them as my bike is for me right now.

i haven't had so much fun in years.

Suction Breast Machine

start here.

Now the article is interesting, sure. But the real conundrum here is that while posting this to my site I actually had so many possible crude jokes to choose from that I had to write them down to keep them sorted.

I decided to go with the obvious "suction/sucking/blowjob" joke because it was the most obvious and in the end I think that crudeness and obviousness have an inherent relationship.

South Park, Beavis and Butthead, Jackass? Aren't we just reveling in the glorious crudeness of the obvious? The courage to go for the easy joke, to laugh at the fat kid, the cripple kid, the ugly kid? In our disillusionment have we lost our joy in an attempt to be too clever?

cool and youthful or ridiculous and immature

or both? i've been wondering lately about this whole question. are we more youthful than our parents were, or just more adolescent. (this assumes your parents, like mine, weren't free thinkers or even pretending to be freethinkers by the time they were your age.)

my dad was a unitarian lay minister or something when he was in his twenties. but then by the time he was my age was reading the wall street journal on the train from scarsdale new york to manhattan to work his way corporate job for texaco every morning; voted strictly republican, and wore wingtips all the time.

meanwhile i'm split between worrying about my house's foundation and my son's virtually nonexistent college fund and learning to wheelie my new cruiser and wanting to get a copy of that killdozer lp phil was talking about. i just can't feature my dad learning to wheelie when i was four, and they were listening to schmaltzy muzaky crap on the radio by the time i can recall them listening to music at all.

my friend just bought a new skateboard and regularly goes out with other guys neighboring up to 40 years old to half pipes or whatever the hell they are and do all that sk8boarding shit.

i just don't know. and what does this mean about what we'll be doing when i'm 70, assuming we make it to 70?

Killdozer, etc

I just picked up Killdozer cd FOR LADIES ONLY for $5 used, which brings me to several points of (non)interest:

1] Killdozer were great! Even this cd, comprised as it is of covers of some really awful songs (American Pie is the worst!) rocks pretty hard! This is the only cd I have of theirs, so if y'all see any out there in the used bins, grab em up for me! I could even pay you back with PayPal!!

2]Other cds I'm looking for currently are:

+any of the early Fugs except their second album/cd,

+the dbl cd by King Crismon called B'Boom: Live in Argentia. this dblcd retails new for $16.95... Also any of the new re-issues of the earlier King Crimson stuff

3]What is ya'll's opinions about buying used cds? If I'm faced with buying a used or new cd where the artist will either get paid or not, usually I am all for it, no matter who it is, but recently I've been re-thinking that. For example, I recently felt kinda guilty for buying a used Vic Chesnutt cd, knowing he's out there trying to make a living... what do yall think?

robert blake really was in our gang (a/k/a little rascals), despite his denying it on the tonight show back in the 70s. his character name was mickey. wheezer died at 19 in a plane crash. actually, taken as a group, they seem to have had pretty bad luck with longevity.

if you visit that page, you'll notice that robert blake is mysteriously about 10 years younger than all the other rascals. (whaddya bet he's lying.)

check the 'wait there's more -> read on' link for the tale of broken lives and misery that followed what appears to be the majority of our gang.

Scotty Beckett - (10/4/29 - 5/10/68) - As an adult he checked into a Hollywood nursing home on May 8, 1968, needing medical attention after suffering a serious beating. He died two days later. Although pills and a note were found, no conclusion was made by the coroner as to the exact cause of his death. He was just 38 years old.

Spanky (George McFarland) - Made an appearance on Cheers shortly before he died at age 64 of a heart attack.

Stymie (Matthew Beard) - (1/1/25 - 1/8/81) - Stymie had a troubled adult life with crime and drugs. In 1981 he suffered a stroke, contracted pneumonia, and died at USC Medical Center at age 56. His last words were: "Fun, fun, fun...Had a lot of fun."

feel old, feel funky, feel old

i'm sitting here on the 20th floor writing about compound annual growth rates forecast thru 2004 for system infrastructure packaged software IT spending in the transportation industry listening to the humpty hump. thinking what a groovy song it is. realizing its like 12 years old, and feeling really old again. and white. so white.

L. Ron Hubbard, Musical Genius

"Given that so much of what L. Ron Hubbard accomplished musically depended upon tools drawn from his development of Scientology, it is only fitting that his final album, initially released in 1986, would constitute a Scientology musical statement. That album, featuring performances by such Scientology luminaries as John Travolta, Julia Migenes and Chick Corea, is aptly entitled The Road to Freedom."

Fortunately for us, the entire album has been posted on the web, one fabulous song at a time. (RealAudio format ... if you have Spinner installed, you have RealAudio installed.)
