In Praise Of Genius
I had butthole radio on here in the office, and a live version of "Lady Sniff" came on. Best I've felt all day! That song will always rank as one of my all-time faves. Thank you King et al!

according to an attendee
got this note from someone who made it to mike's mad mule launch...
Mike's party was a rager! There was some discussion among friends about
the nature of Mule's debut as a business, and the general dearth of
company-sponsored parties in SF. So after a swell visit to friends'
pleasant, rent-reduced, new apartment we got on over to Dogpatch, which
is about as isolated a part of SF as possible, though it's across the
street from one of the leading underground party facilities.
So Mule's party turned out to be one of the leading underground
activities I've been to in quite a while. The office is more like an
artist's studio than the typical sterile dot-com "loft" spaces. We ended
the evening with a tour of dives and a drag queen floor show. The old,
real SF was out in force that night, reclaiming the city one apartment,
artist's loft, and dive bar at a time.

humble phil
I'm very sorry for the bitchy snooty holierthanwhatever attitude of my previous posts. It seems that some cranky old fat NON-caffinated curmudgeon got ahold of my computer and commenced with his wet-diaper tirade before a calm sense of reason and balance could beset him, attaching and besmirching my good name. The nerve!

A favor to ask
If we're ever having a face-to-face discussion about the attack on the World Trade Center, please don't refer to it as "nine-eleven" or "nine-one-one". "September eleventh" will be perfectly understandable. "Nine-eleven" sounds like some sort of police code or boy band, and we don't really need to discuss "nine-one-one".
Thanks.

I'm an intern...
So I've decided to go back to school; actually, I started last semester at City College of SF by taking Anatomy ( got an "A"!). I've decided I want to learn Traditional Chinese Medicine, and become an acupuncturist. Yeah I've lived in California too long, but it's what I want to do, and its better than WFM shifty-for-life.
Any way, I started an intership today at this clinic. Its fun, but a little overwhelming. And Wednesday I start taking Nutrition and Chinese 1A at CCSF. Hopefully, in about one year, I will start towards my MS in TCM at one of the TCM colleges in the Bay Area. I'll keep you informed. Wish me luck.

Suckers!!!
Well, looks like Emily and I have taken the plunge (pending a check with our vet), we'll be adopting "Angel" (soon to be renamed) sometime this week if all goes well. I guess I miss the thrill of stepping in cold puppy pee and finding my old vinyl chewed up, etc., etc., etc.
Actually, we've been wanting another dog for some time, as Hank is getting on in years, and we'd both turn into basket cases if Hank passed and we were dogless at the time. I'll send some "home pics" of her once the dust settles. I'm rather excited about it, actually!

Party at my place
Mule (that's my design studio, kiddies) is having a party. A great big kick-off thingie. With drinks, movies projected on the 30' wall, fire twirlers, cheerleaders, DJs, and Jad Fair playing guitar. Yes, that Jad Fair.
There's really no reason any of you shouldn't be here for it. Get off your asses and book a flight.

Dallas punk memories...
"I'm going to see Jello Biafra tonight, at the ridglea theatre in fort worth. King & Dave, can you imagine our lives if something like this happened when we were 16, and punk bands and "luminaries" were playing at the ridglea?!"
I lived in Carrollton during high school (1984-1988.) My punk rock memories of Dallas...
1. Seeing Johnny Lydon put out a stage fire with a beer at the Arcadia Theatre.
2. Seeing Husker Du fight with each other on stage at Club Clearview.
3. Shopping at VVV records
4. Shopping at Record Gallery
5. KNON
6. Subgenius devivals at Dallas Comic Convention (ok, maybe comic conventions weren't very punk, but the Dallas Subgenius thing taught me a lot about not being normal.)
7. Wishing I didn't live in Carrollton.

the FALL lyrics for the day
TOTALLY WIRED
I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired. I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired.
Can't you see? A butterfly stomach round ground. I drank
a jar of coffee, and I took some of these.
And I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired. I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired.
Life leaves you surprised.
Slaps you in the eyes.
If I were a communist, a rich man would bale me.
The opposite applies.
The morning light.
Another fresh fight.
Another row, right, right, right, right.
And I'm Totally Wired. JJJust Totally Wired. I'm
Totally Biased. Totally Wired.
You don't have to be weird to be wired.
You don't have to be an American brand.
You don't have to be strange to be strangled.
You don't have to be weird to be wrangled.
But I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired. JJJust Totally
Wired. I'm Totally Wired.
My Heart and I agree. My Heart and I agree.
I'm Irate, Peeved, Irate, Peeved,
Irate, Bad State. Bad State.
Cos I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired. JJJust Totally
Wired. Totally Wired. And I'm always worried. And I'm always
worried. And I'm always worried. And I'm always worried.
is there a Annotated The Fall book out there, maybe something with a concordance and glossary, so that those of us that aren't Mark Smith can know what his songs are about?

Computer dating goes to divinity school
"Even if YOU don't know what faith you are, Belief-O-Matic knows. Answer 20 questions about your concept of God, the afterlife, human nature, and more, and Belief-O-Matic will tell you what religion (if any) you practice...or ought to consider practicing."
I took this, and rather scarily, my beliefs were considered compatible with the following faiths:
1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Liberal Quaker (86%)
3. Mahayana Buddhism (85%)
4. Neo-Paganism (84%)
5. Theravada Buddhism (83%)
6. Liberal Protestant (78%)
7. New Age (76%)
also:
19. Latter-day Saint (Mormon) (37%)
20. Atheism and Agnosticism (35%)
22. Jehovah's Witness (25%)
and coming in last place:
27. Roman Catholic (18%)
