crazy

i bought the new firemans texas cruzer race yesterday. after standing in the store for almost an hour weighing options (should i go with my initial impulse and get the clearcoat steel, my second mania and get the badass stealth matte black, or jeez look at that yellow, just about the same color as my ol' schwinn stingray!), i finally settled down and got the clearcoat. one of the - i think - few hundred 26" BMX bikes being made anywhere in the world this year. and its mine all mine.
the welds are beautiful, not like the unseemly scars some welds can be. these are gorgeous. the steel fairly glows under the sun. i upgraded to the profile crankset, and got the rest stock. so besides being in love with it aesthetically... my ride to work today literally felt a third shorter. maybe better. the bike rides like nothing i've ever experienced. tight and clean and beautiful and easy and fast.
and built right here in austin, texas. they'll deliver anywhere, though... david. i just can't tell you how awesome this bike is. i looked at - and test rode - a bunch of $1K mtn. bikes, and none can TOUCH this bike. its smoother over rough pavement, its faster uphill, it jumps easier. i just can't express.
the kona cruiser brought me pure joy. this is ecstasy.
Sounds like a cool bike. I still like to have gears. My ideal commuter would be an 18" mountain bike frame (26" wheels) with a three-speed internal hub and a 42t chainring, drop-bars with barcon shifter (only need one for the rear hub), fenders (it rains a lot here), and a rear rack (I've always hated wearing a backpack when I ride). I'm basically there with my old RockHopper, except I still have the 7 speed hub and derailer and the three chainring crank with a front der. Maybe that'll be my winter project. Hm ... I could do a new paint job, too.
