King

posted by Lang'uid Squal'or, a student of the transexual art on April 3, 2002

I think all that talk of the clash and x scared/bored King away. We need to figure a way to coax him back into the fold..

Here are some King-related themes that might work:

-hot hunky-dude porn

-anything Patti Hearst related, or other 60s/70s female radicals/revolutionaries

-any discussions of Nina Simone, or any lesser known sullen soul/jazz chick singers [Hey King, are you into Betty Carter?][Roberta Flack?]

-discussions about mid-80s funk, a la Cameo, Grandmaster Flash, etc

-red hot hunky-dude porn

-musical instruments from Asia, and maybe Africa

-local political figures

-local news anchors

-the glory days of All My Children

-Tom of Finland

-buddhism

-super red hot hunky-dude porn

Any of these should rouse our King out of his current non-communicado status! :)

hey king, remember when brooke was known as nothing more than the "pool house slut" at the wallingford place?

King, remember K-104, and the more militant 107.something on the DFW airwaves in the '70's? Both fine sources o' funk, they were!

As an aside, does anyone have anything by Brick in their collections?

Tom, Lorna would be cracking up at that!

Hey King, of course you remember the 107 add for Mickeys Big Mouth right? You taught it to me! "How can anything so BAD be so GOOOD..?!"

(taking a drunken knee for that Mickey's ad) Man, I forgot all about that, heh, heh, heh...

you people make me cry, you are so beautiful. Phil, your big list of all things King is stupendous, you know me better than I know myself. Tom, I wish they would bring back Ray Gardner, Silver Kane and make Liza evil again - in fact I wish everyone on the show was evil. David J, my god KNOK was the best station ever (and K104 too) - Trouble Funk, Zapp/Roger, Funkadelic, Gap Band - I'm crying. And David, you know that I've always wanted to have a music shop that only sold non-western instruments.

I'm sorry I've been away. Friday I was in the studio. Saturday disappeared into a black void, Sunday I went to Dallas (sorry I didn't call Phil, but it was a weird "let's move Aunt Jean into her new nursing home" day - she was depressed as was everybody else), Monday I drove back from Dallas.

I always loved Los Angeles, but never liked Under The Big Black Sun.

I was never as crazy about the Clash as some of my friends (I never dug "sincerity" in music, I would grumble), but I always liked their dub and soul attempts. I did play that first album a lot, but I dunno, these days I'd prefer to hear the original Jamaican versions of "Armageddeon Times" and "Police and Thieves" than say "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" or "White Riot".

I still don't really get why everybody thinks that MC5 album is so great, but then again the only music that has moved me this year has been big dumb rawk music and I think I'm ready to give the MC5 another shot.

Just playing catch up. Where are my super red hot hunky-dude porno pictures, anyway (didn't it come with the Geriatric Punk Memebership Package)?

King- drag about aunt jean, i'm sorry. my own grandmother was depressed too when it happened, i think she still is in a way, course she's 94 years old too, i think she's tired of being around..

Ok so DFWers please help me remember: KNOK was 107.5?, did it broacast out of fort worth?! I'd love to find some old bumperstickers for it, that'd be so cool!

as for the MC5, i do love Kick Out the Jams, and I even like Back In the Usa [a little] but my real favorite is the last one, High Time. I dig that one the most.

I am not allowed to view this of course, because i am employed by a methodist establisment, but this is for you king, and the rest of yall https://www.tomoffinland.com/

Phil, I think you're right on both counts about KNOK, I remember how bad it used to fade in Dallas depending on where one was (usually ight in the middle of the long version of "Spotlight"...ARRRGHHH!!!) I'll be on the hunt for bumperstickers, and will gladly share any wealth found with one and all.

All this time I didn't know KNOK was based out of Ft, Worth (as per David J's DFW radio link above). Whaddya know.

I knew that they were one of the first, if not thee first, black owned radio stations in the country and their 40 year old run is something different in this day of Clear Channel owning every station and changing formats every 6 months.
