Blog News and Some Photos

posted by McFrozen on July 19, 2002

You'll be happy to know that when you search for "geriatic punks" on Google, our site is result number one. Just in case anyone ever searches for "geriatric punks".

Here are some other fascinating search phrases that have lead people to our little site, in order of popularity, with misspellings intact:

  • triumph starwars.wmv
  • humpty dumpty lsd
  • turtle dragon austin
  • morrisey lyrics
  • loco gringos
  • humpty dumpty lsd reviews
  • imminence front townsend
  • triumph starwars
  • tawny kittaen
  • micael jackson

And for those who are interested, this past weekend I got a little photo gallery thing working on my other site. There are at least 97 photos up there that none of you have ever seen. Guaranteed. Go have a look.

Icee, me and Skuzz & Dinky McBride were discussing the notion that perhaps because this site is not altogether SECURE from outside invaders, that perhaps we all should have pseudonyms appear whenever we post, especially since we each tend to discuss our employers, some of whom are national grocers, schoold districts, universities, etc. Others of us a rock n roll stars, and still more of us have filled the www with pictures of ourselves and our children.
I for one never gave a thought to the possibility of droppers-by, though in retrospect, some odd, not-known names have appeared here once or twice. I fully admit to being completely naive with regard to BLOGS and WEBS. Would there be a way to do a "global" change of one's real name to a fake name, on this log, so that all past appearances of the name would then reflect the new fake name?

It is a topic about which I am curious.

I heartily concur!

There are two ways to handle it. Both involve the user changing a setting in his author profile and then the sysadmin (me) changing some stuff. I don't care which way we do it.

  1. You can change your username to something other than the name I originally assigned you.
If you do that, I need to know so I can change the author archive pages.

  2. You can change your nickname. Currently everybody's nickname is the same as their username.
If you want to use your nickname on your posts, I need to know because I'll have to change a few other templates as well as the author archives.
I think it's a fine idea, and I don't care which one you do, but this is not just a quick change on my end. If you're going to change one or the other, please make a decision and stick with it. I'm happy to make the change, but it's not like changing the outgoing name on your email. If you make changes that I'm not aware of, it will break parts of the blog.

Oh, and there is no way to globally change your names on comments you've made, only actual posts. You'd have to go through each post one by one, select the comment, then change the comment author's name. If you would like to do that, I can set up your permissions to allow it.

Let me know.
