Just one of the stunning masterpieces on this record. I just got a new copy (as my old one was a dying cassette tape), and it's giving me a whole new lease on life. If you haven't listened to it in a while, dig it out and feel good about the world again.

Were these the guys that called themselves "drunk rock" and when they played at Voltaire's in Austin the bass player climbed a building that was under construction or something?

Man - I loved the Landshark record. I can't believe I never had Where the Wild Things Are - I must get this cd.

Yeah, David, I think your memories are right. I know we saw them once at Skyline, but the Voltaire's thing sounds right also.

I always heard the singer killed his girlfriend and was profiled on America's Most Wanted. While digging online to get more info on this I see that he has a new band called the Resisteleros. Confused how he could beat a murder wrap, apparently he served his time and is now a free man. Apparently Fang reunion shows in 97 didn't go over too well, since family and friends of the victim still live in the Bay Area.

As concluded in this Usenet thread "The moral of this story.. don't kill your girlfriend and her friends won't hate your band."

The singer for ToT died, right?

Following this theme, I saw the Offenders (again) last night at Emo's. And JJ wasn't there because he was in jail (again).

Oooo ... King's playing the "I'm in a band and hang out at grimy clubs" credibility card.

Hey, you're the one stating facts, not me.

But to offer full disclosure - I drive a Toyota Camry, shop at Old Navy and have an IRA (but am not part of the IRA). In short, I'm a bald soccer mom.

Speaking of Tales of Terror, check out the latest entries in one of my favorite music blogs, Agony Shorthand.

I liked this band a lot live, but for whatever fucked reason I never had the album or even remember hearing it. If someone wants to burn it for me, I'll walk your dog and do your dishes.

I do remember that they were the most appropriately named band in punk. We did a tour on the west coast where we kind of followed the path of destruction of the band a week later. Everyone (especially those who put the band in their houses) had their own Tale of Terror about the band.

Some gleanings from the comments section:

- could it be that it was a member of ToT and not Fang that climbed the building you referred to McFrozen?
- Death count of band members - one murdered, one OD.
- "By the way, Sacto's punk scene in the early 80s was flooded with acid thanks to the efforts of Sammytown and Fang. Whenever Fang showed up to play, half the audience was tripping, thanks to Sammy walking around with a vial and squirting acid from an eyedropper into peoples mouths. And for the next week or so, everyone was selling acid or taking it.'

(apologies to our host McFrozen for temporarily unlocking this thread.)
