Philip Glass: Koyaanisqatsi
I know alot of people dislike Philip Glass, perhaps some of those people are here today. I really DO like him, and this record is one of my favorites of his. In fact, believe it or not, it would be a so-called "desert island" record for me. I won't bore yall by describing it, I'm sure you all know what Philip Glass sounds like.
The movie for which this is the soundtrack, like the music, is also an acquired taste; some people call it a masterwork, others find it quite annoying. I recommend seeing it at least once. Here's some press from it:
Ko.yaa.nis.qatsi (from the Hopi language), n. 1. Crazy life. 2. Life in turmoil. 3. Life
disintegrating. 4. Life out of balance. 5. A state of life that calls for another way of living.
THE HOPI PROPHECIES
If we dig precious things from the land,We will invite disaster.
Near the day of Purification, there will be cobwebs Spun back and forth in the sky.
A container of ashes might one day be thrown From the sky, which could burn the land And boil the oceans.
