I can't make myself drink this ...

A can of Calpico fermented milk soda, strawberry flavor.

I know I shouldn't be scared, but "fermented milk soft drink" is pretty scary. Adding "strawberry flavor" to the mix is even scarier. Should I drink it?

Texas mascots

This offers a little insight to the wonderful state of Texas, and its love of football. I particularly enjoy this one.

Punk Rock Urban Legends

Does anybody remember the legend surrounding the Circle Jerks and the Adolescents? That one of them traded the other one a song for a band name? I remember it being something like the Adolescents were originally called the Circle Jerks, and Greg and the boys needed a name, but had written the song "Kids of the Black Hole". A conversation ensued over beers and the rest is history. I am absolutely positive that I've embelleshed my memory, but I don't know which parts.

Pour a little for Doug the Slug

dougtheslug.gif

David McC - you probably didn't hear about this, but Charles Gunning, aka Doug the Slug, passed away a couple of weeks ago. I never knew the guy that well, but I certainly remember him and was glad that he had a successful career in film.

The IMDB has a pretty good biography.

In happier news...

The Statesman ran a frontpage artice on Roky Erickson Sunday. Sadly the online version doesn't have any of the pictures (he's clean shaven thesedays - I didn't recognize when I saw him a couple of months ago).

Basically he's doing great. Neighbors on 37th Street collected money for him as part of their annual Christmas light display and there's talk that Amy's Ice Cream is going to make a new Roky Road flavor as both a tribute and fundraiser.

There's also serious talk that a movie will be made about his life. I know this has been discussed forever - but now it's looking like it will happen with some impressive Hollywood money/names behind it (since Google documents our typings for the masses, maybe I should take this to the Lounge as I think the family wants to keep it under wraps for now).
