You Have Bad Taste In Music
An unidentified individual wearing shades and a German army helmet goes to various venues where certain musicians are playing (EVANESCENCE, LINKIN PARK, ADEMA, STAIND, etc.), and uses a megaphone to inform concert-goers that, you guessed it, they have bad taste in music.
There's a whole collection of Quicktime movies showing his handiwork, and a nice touch is the plainly fabricated statistics used to back up his claims. Did you know, for instance, that 94.5% of people under the age of 20 have no taste in music?
"Do not be alarmed, citizens; you are in the majority."

One last thing before we all skitter off to bed
here is a link to a live performance of Mötörhead on a german "variety" show
https://tvtotal.prosieben.de/show/letzte_sendung/2004/07/01/03705.html
if you select DSL it will be a decent size but the streaming freezes up, but if you pick ISDN it will play straight thru but the image is smaller than a stamp!
Either way it's worth it. They're playing behind a wall of stage flame, promoting their new album INFERNO, it totally rocks. I can't fuckin wait til the swing thru TX
After, the goon behind the desk interviews Lemmy, retelling the good parts in german so his audience can laugh.
Lemmy's boots are awesome.

Record of the Week:
Diamanda Galas
"La Serpenta Canta" a new double live cd (actually released in europe in december, coming out domestically soon)
I tried to post an mp3 of "The Dark End of the Street" but I keep getting error messages when I try to upload mp3s now. Anyway, this is a quite dark and lovely, soulful concert recording. Diamanda comes off like an evil black voodoo jazz singer. it totally works for me

Part of the site is the "Virtual Feminization Clinic", which apparently is no longer being run. But before they shut down, they did one last famous client ...

What Elections?
I am scared shitless.
"U.S. officials have discussed the idea of postponing Election Day in the event of a terrorist attack on or about that day..."
Of note:
1. The request is coming from Ridge to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
2. The commission was set up after the disputed 2000 presidential election. (Bush got so much 'assistance' in THAT election he decided to make it official.)
3. The commission is led by Forest Soaries, Jr., appointed by President Bush, a former New Jersey secretary of state and senior pastor of the 7,000-member First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset. And, yes, he still serves as senior pastor.
You have to wonder what the goal is when when you start making noise that a terrorist threat COULD change the election. What's the goal and who's the audience?

Stupid little man....
SFGate article about the sensitive man in charge of education in California.
What really irks me about this is that I had to read the Wierd News section of the paper to find out about it. Aren't these politicians and the things they do wacky?

The Sloganator
So, for a while there the Bush reelection site had this little thing called 'The Sloganator'. It was a basic template for a Bush/Cheney poster, but you, the American citizen, could make up your own slogan then upload the results and print your own sign.
You see where this is going, right?
The Sloganator got shut down pretty quick. Some nice person was industrious enough to put up a collection of some of the better sloganator results.
Sometimes the Republicans is evilly brilliant, sometimes they is dumb. George however is ALWAYS dumb.

The Smart-Klamp!
"Circumcision is a very simple and straightforward procedure. Nevertheless it is important to explain your son what is going to happen. With the availability of modern painkillers he does not need to suffer any pain. By using the SmartKlamp® your doctor has chosen for the most up to date method of circumcision, which is very safe and fast."

Disease Cards!
The CDC has put together a nice collection of trading cards of various diseases. You know... for kids!
Us usual, you'll get stuck with a stack of syphilis cards before you'll manage to get Hepatitus B. But Herpes comes in foil with a hologram!

Pet Metal
With mainstream metal becoming more and more corporate, where can a real metal fan turn?
Try Pet Metal. Hatebeak is an extreme metal act with ear-crushing guitars and head-pounding drums. The difference is the "singer" is a parrot called Waldo. Sadly, Hatebeak won't be playing Ozzfest next year: Waldo is scared of loud noises. He even has to record his vocals separately from the rest of the band. But you can look forward to his duet with death metallers Caninus, whose singer is a pitbull.

EURO 2004
Portugal, the host country, made it to the finals of Euro 2004. This doesn't happen very often, and Portugal hasn't been in the finals of a World Soccer event in ages. I figured it merited a call to Dad.
He told me the entire country has gone crazy. The little Portuguese shop that serves as immigrant community center in Philly long ago ran out of team shirts and jerseys so he hand-painted his own. Hasn't washed it since the tournament began and won't wash it ever if they win.
He's spent the last few years watching my grandmother slowly recede into the haze of Alzheimer's, flying back to Portugal 3 or 4 times a year to be by her side as much as possible. It was good to hear some hope and happiness in his voice.
On Sunday Portugal takes on Greece and we'll both be watching, albeit on opposite sides of the country. I hope they win, but as Dad said, "They've already given me more than I could have ever hoped for."

I'm not the target audience
I found this Starbucks ad today from a link that called it "great". And I suppose in some sense it might be considered "funny" or "amusing", but "great"? Really?
Go watch it (it's Quicktime) and then read the rest of the post.
So what I take away from that is that Starbucks Doubleshot espresso drink will give me the gumption to rise all the way to middle-management supervisor and make a terrible '80s hairband follow me around. That sucks. If I ever needed a reason not to give even more money to Starbucks, now I have it.
Or am I just feeling bitter and jaded?
