Rotten Girls and Their Cookies!

Girls make cookies, get sued, lose. Community rallies, lawsuit winner baffled by reaction. Duh.

So these two nice girls decided to skip a high school dance and make and deliver cookies for their neighbors. They delivered the cookies at about 10:30, anonymously, by knocking on doors and leaving the cookies to be found. One neighbor was so startled and frightened by this behavior that she had a panic attack and had to go to the hospital. Then she sued the girls and won. Well, she won her medical and court costs (for a total of about $900), but not the punitive damages. Full story.

Well, in a nice follow-up, a local radio station tried to raise the money to pay the fine for the girls and ended up getting $1900. The overage will go to a charity set up in the name of the Columbine victims. So that's all well and good. It gets better, though. It turns out the girls (or their families, but it doesn't matter) offered to pay the medical expenses from the beginning, but the woman insisted on going to court. Because you have to teach these kids a lesson, I guess. In an even better final twist, the father of one of the girls has had to get a restraining order against the woman's husband because he continues to make harrassing phone calls. Full story.
